Admission

Potential residents and/or their family who express an interest in Eothen Homes are firstly invited to view the home, and will receive a brochure upon request and any other information required. We will provide prospective residents with as much information as possible about the home to help them make a decision about whether or not Eothen is suitable. For potential residents who are already in touch with social services, the initial assessment will be undertaken as part of the care management process.

A formal application is then made to the home and the assessment procedure carried out. The prospective resident is invited to either spend the day at Eothen and join current residents for a meal or for the home manager to make a home or hospital visit.
A detailed assessment and mental test score (if appropriate) will be carried out to assess the resident’s suitability for the home, to ensure that individual care needs can be met including the needs of ethnic minorities or those with specific social, cultural or religious preferences. Specialist advice and reports may also be sought from the GP, nurses, consultants and social workers. Financial arrangements are also discussed.

Eothen Homes GosforthWhen all admission material is available, the General Manager will make the final decision regarding admission. If we feel that the home is not suitable for a particular person we will try to offer appropriate advice for a more suitable care placement.
The assessment process helps the home’s staff to be sure that the home can meet a potential resident’s requirements and to make an initial plan of the care we will provide.
We are happy for a prospective resident to involve their family, friends or other representatives in seeing the home, care and facilities we can provide.
For emergency admissions a full assessment will be made to ensure procedures are met, and information may be obtained by telephone from a health care professional.

Respite care is available only when a bed is vacant and cannot be planned more than one month in advance. The formal admission procedure will still be followed. All admissions have a trial period of six weeks.
