In 1949 Audrey Miller had a vision...... “To care for elderly Christians.” That vision became a reality in 1950 when Eothen Homes in Sutton, Surrey was established, with the addition of nine sheltered bungalows in 1970. In 1990, Miss Miller opened our first nursing home in Sutton, Surrey. Unfortunately the home was too small and was not viable and was closed in 1995. The building has since been connected to the residential home on the same site.
Initially, the elderly residents cared for each other in the home, sharing chores and living as a Christian community. Miss Miller devoted herself for fifteen years as a voluntary Matron.
The second home was opened in Whitley Bay, North Tyneside in 1964 and in 1985 the residents moved into a modern purpose built home in the town centre.
In 1985, a home in Haddington, Scotland was acquired and sold to a Scottish charitable trust as a going concern in 1995.
The third home was built in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne and opened in 1989 and Head Office was established in 1990 centralising finance and other administration.
Eothen aims to provide good quality care and accommodation and in the future will look to provide additional services in the community as opportunities arise.
