On cloud nine as Georgina aims to make it glider trip no 25

Georgina 1Georgina 2Georgina Hughes, who lives in Eothen, Gosforth, has flown in a glider 24 times and wants to make it 25. The 87-year-old has flown in a glider 24 times and wants to go up in the skies for one last jaunt. She is asking any North East gliding club to step forward and make her dream come true. And she has told how much the feat would mean to her. “You get a lovely feeling in your heart when you go up in a glider,” said Georgina.

She first got the bug decades ago when the Women’s Institute she attended was given two vouchers to take to the skies. “I was with the WI and we were given two vouchers to go gliding. On the vouchers it said ‘Come and enjoy the experience’. “Another lady and myself went and I was hooked. The other lady never went back but I did and I loved it. I have a logbook and in it one pilot said once she is up there she doesn’t want to come down.”

Care assistant Kara Templeton said: “How lovely would it be for Georgina to get to go up in a glider one more time to make it her 25th? She has pictures of herself gliding and she clearly loved it.”
